A day of sleeping-bag and map shopping in Augsburg

Monday

(Three months on the road!)

Awake at 07:00, but I didn’t get up until 08:00. I showered and washed yesterday’s tee and jocks. I’d washed yesterday’s socks last night. I washed them with soap and hot water and I was shocked at the brown juice that came out of them.

Now I’m sitting having breakfast. I have to do quite a bit of running around today.

Consumables:

  • soap
  • toothpaste
  • toothbrush
  • shampoo
  • deodorant

Camping gear:

  • Find and buy a lightweight summer sleeping bag
  • Pack and post the old one home

Navigation:

  • Find and buy maps to get me to Salzburg

Rendezvous:

  • Figure out where I’m likely to be by the beginning of next month for Aisling (3 July)
  • Figure out where I’m likely to be by 21-22 July for David

Over the last three months, I’ve averaged 544 km/mo. That’s 18.15 km/day.

Aisling arrives in 18 days. I could cover 324 km in that time. I’ll be somewhere between Salzburg and Villach.

Crossing from Austria into Slovenia can be done over the Wurzen pass.

Radendorf to Kranjska Gora: Low, easy uneventful”.

I want to cross the Alps on a hiking trail, though.

Augsburg to Salzburg: 207 km (by road)

Augsburg to Villach: 378 km (by road via Munich and Salzburg)

David arrives in 38 days. In that time I can cover 684 km.

I could be in Banja Luka (626 km as the crow flies). Likely I’ll be somewhere between Zagreb (478 km) and Banja Luka.

14:37: I’m zapped. I was drifting off reading my book. I think I’ll get an early night tonight. I need to book in for another night so I get to see the tourist sights here and plan my journey onwards.

14:55: Back at the hostel. I’m going to snooze for an hour.

17:04: That was necessary! I slept for almost two hours. I’m going to pack the sleeping bag now. Aisling’s probably going to fly into Zagreb around the 16/17 July.

18:30: Back from town where I spent €20 on maps to get me to München, then back to the hostel and out for dinner with Shahbaz and a drink in the evening sun on the town square. We walked home at dusk.
