08:29: Moving about after an hour-long lie-in during which I fell back to sleep. Today I’ll get a new case for the camera and plan my route to Ulm.
11:00: Breakfast was a bit of a rigmarole — three-egg omelette with scallions and buttered rye breadfollowed by appelmoes and yoghurt. Now I’m spreading the maps on the table.
13:01: Two hours just to plot the outlines of the 1:50,000 maps on the 1:300,000 map of South-East Germany. It’s been worthwhile. Many of the 1:50,000 maps are not needed,1 so I’ll send them home. I still need to figure out my daily track on the remaining 1:50,000 maps, and find places to sleep. But first, some lunch.

13:46: That was successful!
14:32: I transcribed a day from my notebook onto blot.im. I’ve fallen badly behind. The next date to transcribe is Wednesday 26 April. It’s just impossibly time consuming.
14:47: Off to the post office. It’s 1 km South of here.
15:14: €7.50 to send over half a kilo of maps and notebooks to Aisling. I’ve admitted defeat and posted Notebook 4 after photographing the remaining untranscribed pages.
Next buy a new case for the camera and get some supplies for tomorrow in Aldi. Maybe pop into town for a bit? And map my route onwards and plan accommodation — ah yes, I need to go to the tourist office in town and get a list of youth hostels in South-East Germany. And campsites, if possible. Otherwise Google’s my friend.
15:46: €9.49 for a new camera case. The €200 netbooks have German keyboards. If they had UK keyboards I’d be seriously tempted.
16:30: €10.09 for fruit, snacks and soup.

I’d bought sets of maps covering a specific area at a reduced price.↩
