35 Awake. Decide to snooze a bit longer.
20 Sitting up. My quilt is a bit too warm.
07 Washed and dressed in clean clothes. Ready for breakfast and planning the day.
03 Breakfasted, still enjoying a leisurely cup of Barry’s. I’ve found the Caen Decathlon store. It’s just a few kilometres away in the same suburb.
10 On the way to the laverie automatique. It’s another beautiful day.
58 24 minutes for a wash, €3.20 for a 6kg machine, €0.50 for washing powder.
18 Back in the house to hang out my washing in the garden after a stop for lunch on the way back from the laverie. Grande Crudités and tea for €6.00.
33 Out again. Took €100 from an ATM. Going to the post office to post my first French map to my mum.
31 At a shopping wilderness, waking along pedestrian-hostile roads aiming for Decathlon. I got most of the way here on the bus: €1.50.
41 Really great shopping experience at Decathlon - great range of kit at super prices and the young staff mostly speak English.
belt: €10 technical t-shirt: €4.49 ultralight day pack: €7.99 total: €22.47
56 On the way back to the bus stop.
44 Back at home, making a pot of Barry’s tea and now I’m alone in the sitting room catching up on blogging and photo management. I’ve finally cloned my “Blot” folder from Dropbox to my phone so I can safely work on it offline.
06 Phone crashed. I’ve been transcribing this notebook. I’m still several days behind.
Philippe invited me to join Cécile and himself for a dinner of creamed broccoli, carrots julienne and fried eggs, followed by bread and cheese. I’ve also spoken to him about staying an extra night so l can actually spend tomorrow in town checking out Caen’s cultural highlights. This is the largest town I’ve been in so far since leaving Dublin so I want to give it some respect.
