08:17: Slept really well. Up at 07:45 very bleary-eyed. I went to bed at one o’clock this morning after making my excuses.1 I’m about to do my teeth now and say good morning to Anita.
09:26: On the road after a lovely breakfast and chat with Anita. Everyone else is either off working or still in bed! There’s rain forecast for this afternoon so I’m thinking of walking only as far as Golling to plan the rest of the route as outlined by Gert. Seems like I have all the detail maps for his route. It’s cool and cloudy today, with tiny patches of blue. It’s been raining this morning; the roads are wet.

13:11: The valley has opened out again. I just passed Gasthof Stegenwald. It’s a beautiful day now. I’m glad I pressed on.
13:21: Weather’s changing. I’m stopping for lunch.
13:58: About to start moving again; bag on. Delicious local bread with mountain cheese slices, scallions and leafy salad and eight pieces of Milka Hazelnut chocolate. Socks are dry and packed.

14:50: The weather’s remaining clement. I’m approaching a town dominated by a castle on a nearby hill.
14:59: Tenneck. The castle is Hohenwerfen. The rain has started spitting. I think I’m seven or eight kilometres from the campsite.

15:03: …and the rain’s arrived. I’m sheltering for a few minutes in the hope that this is a shower that’ll blow over.
15:07: No it won’t. The camping is 6.46km away as the crow flies. Better just get the coat on and go!

17:28: Tent pitched. Spitting rain has stopped. About to check in. Hostess seems lovely, facilities basic.
17:41: Checked in, back under the tent as the rain begins to fall. I’ve dropped the foot end of the tent low and pointed it windwards to keep the rain off as much as possible.

21:47: Sitting in darkness writing this. I had a pizza2 for (I think) €8.90 and read for a bit. I’m about to unroll my sleeping bag now. Might listen to a podcast. I’m spending the day here tomorrow.
