09:06: Up at 07:08. Now I’m washed (t-shirt, towel and socks washed, breakfasted (porridge, fruit/nut/seed mix and a fresh apple)) and I’ve broken camp. I’m ready to hit the road It’s a warm (not muggy) overcast day. Very pleasant walking conditions.
09:13:48
09:15: On the road. Today, I walk through Moosburg, Krumpendorf, skirt Klagenfurt and then head due south to Ferlach.
09:40: Goodbye, Moosburg, I hardly knew you. Like so many places.
09:52: Pleasant walking in country lanes.

10:43: On the main street.
10:46: Stopping for a mixed salad and a Kräuterlimonade mit Wasser. I haven’t seen the price list. I miss Turkish restaurants!
11:02: That was OK. A bit too much of a crime against cuisine: iceberg lettuce. €6.90.
11:20: Penny markt. €3.97 for 500g bread, fruit and nuts and a salty bread stick.(v. delish.)
11:33: Leaving Krumpendorf.
11:54: Walking along beside the shore of the Wörthersee. It’s quite lovely here. [The lake is] an amazing turquoise colour.

13:09: Spits of rain, as forecast. Hope it stays light. Dark clouds overhead.

13:24: Rain has stopped. It didn’t do anything except make the day a bit more humid. I’m walking through suburbs and farms on twisting, hilly back roads.
13:39:32
13:44: The sky behind me is blue, but up ahead the mountains are shrouded in thick black rumbling thunderclouds.
14:04: Wheat’s being harvested.

15:18: Cracked on over the narrow See on a bridge not built for pedestrians. In Kirschentheuer now.
15:34: Through the village, at the site of the camping, but it doesn’t exist anymore. There’s a Penny where I can get some extras for tomorrow’s walk and maybe even some eggs and salad for tonight. Pension Schütz on the way to the village has a campsite. Heading there first.
15:48: Checked in. €17.50. The boss is a nasty piece of work — a string-vested scumbag1.
15:54: Not the jolliest of campsites. I’m miles from the facilities but they’re decent. It’s raining lightly. I’m gonna set up and head back to Penny for some shopping. I skipped lunch and today was a short day. Got to give it all tomorrow, and I want to be fuelled up and well rested2.
16:50: €12.70 for high-energy snacks and vegetables.
17:02: Sitting down to dinner.
20:47: It’s almost dark, thanks to the black clouds blotting out the sunset. It started to rain at about 18:00 and hasn’t stopped. I chatted to Aisling on Telegram and my siblings on Skype, looked at Twitter and Hacker News and read a few pages of the third book in Robertson Davies’ Deptford Trilogy. This one is slow to get going, and feels a bit ‘painting by numbers’. We’ll see. I also scoffed all the caramel biscuits. I’m about to lay out my sleeping bag now (though it’s raining, it’s too warm for the bivvy bag) and go to sleep. After having looked at the map, I’m less nervous about tomorrow’s walk than I was earlier.
