08:54: I joined a lovely Dutch couple, Baukje and (I think) Wieske for dinner. She provides support for university-level autistic students and he works on human-robotic interfaces and the wider societal effects of robotics and automation.
I’ve also chatted to Gerard from South Tipperary, who’s touring Europe on his Honda Goldwing. I think he’s the first Irish person I’ve met.
I’ve washed, showered, washed socks, t-shirt and jocks and rinsed my towel, eaten porridge breakfast and now I’m going to break camp and heading for Kranj.

DOBER DAN | Good day |
11:03: I’ve decided to move on. I’ll need all the remaining time to get to Zagreb1. It’s raining lightly now. I need to get to Kranj today so let’s crack on. I’d love to stay!
11:11: It’s actually pouring proper so I’ve stopped at the bistro2 for a snack and a cuppa chai.
11:24: The chai is not sweet tepid tea, it’s some nutty fruit tea into which I dumped a portion of honey. It’s quite drinkable! I’m also having a ham omelette, no cheese.
11:45: €7.30. Hitting the road.
11:57:14
12:04:23
12:29: Outskirts of Tržič.

12:55:03
12:55:36
13:19: €6.96 to post the 1:200,000 Austria map home and the four 1:150,000 maps of the Alps.
13:37:56
13:47: Leaving Tržič. Entering Pristava.
13:38:10
13:50:13
13:50:55
13:58:43
14:05: Križe.
14:16: €1.60 for a spinach burek3. €0.80 for a Cockta.
14:28: Moving again.
14:31:58
14:38: Climbing. Leaving Križe. I’m on the Eastern side of a widening, funnel-shaped valley, heading South. The valley is at least three kilometres wide where I am.
14:50: Heavy shower. I’m sheltering under some trees.
15:08: Moving again. I missed the worst of it. Rain jacket on, but shorts are gonna need to dry out again. I forgot they were on my pack4. Senično.
15:14: Leaving Senično. Farms. The last bit I’d been waking through felt like an extended, loosely-packed village.
15:21:41
15:26: Golnik. Still drizzling.
15:35: Leaving Golnik.
16:07: Drizzle rate is exceeded by the evaporation rate. Earplugs in. I’m walking through meadows backed by mixed deciduous and coniferous forest on both sides of the road. It’s muggy.
16:22: Tenetiše,
16:34: Leaving Tenetiše. I see blue sky ahead.
16:52: More drizzle. Mlaka.
17:06: Leaving Mlaka. That was pure suburbia.
17:09: Kokrica.
17:14: Outskirts of Kranj.
17:46:01
17:58: Checked in at the hostel. €13:50 for a bed in a six-bed dorm. I was about to load more snaps onto my phone5 when I got into a conversation with Tommy, who’d arrived at the same time as me6.

Let’s jut say better bureks were to come!↩
If stuff didn’t have time to dry completely, I’d often karabiner it to my backpack so it could dry in the sun and the breeze.↩

That night, I shared my room with a Serb and a Kosovan.↩
